Cardmon Hero is a 3D Fantasy MMORPG with card based summoning. It is made by T3FUN. The same studio responsible for bringing Aika Global. If you are expecting this game to be similar to Aika, than you are quite wrong. The concept arts of this game are based on Cartoony, Anime based. This game has its own working and mechanics on which this game works. We will discuss them later in the article. The game is still in closed beta, with closed beta running for only a week and servers opening for 14 hours .And the server opening and closing times are such to facilitate North America users more than rest of the world .Because servers only open from 7 pm – 3 am EST. At that time I was mostly sleeping or in university. So fortunately I got a break from university for a week. And I made a plan to check out this game. Because I had never tested a game out with trade card gaming mechanism.
Character Creation:
Character creation is just like any other game. They give you options for choosing the size of your character ears, face, nose, waist and you even click on randomize options if you cannot come up with your customized character.
Gameplay:
New comers will find it hard to adjust in the first few days. Because card summoning concept is way too complex than it should have had been. It will take you sometime to familiarize yourself with system. My suggestion would be to visit the official website and have a look at their starting guide. Because that helped me a lot to understand the game mechanics. The game is based on intense hack and slash. So be sure to give your fingers some rest.
Cardmon Hero
One good thing that I found in this game is that unlike aika the npc conversation is quite limited. Other than some epic quests you will just talk with the npc and take the quest and you are good to go. The keyboard based movement. There is no role of mouse in your movement .Because of which you have to use left, right, up, down buttons way too many times which was quite frustrating for me sometimesGraphics:
Graphics of the game are pretty average. Limited graphics settings quite annoyed me because I love to see that moving water in a lake. You can also not swim or go inside water. It would have been interesting if we were allowed to do that.
Card Summoning and Special mercenaries:
This is core part of the game. While doing quests or killing monsters you are rewarded randomly with mercenary cards. And it is this card summoning stuff I am wondering their cash shop will be based upon. Buying some awesome powerful mercenary cards from their cash shops and using them. One thing that is a big letdown is the summoning time of mercenary after which you will have to re-summon him. Most of the cards that I used had a summon time of 3 mins for mercenaries. Special mercenaries which for some odd reason called “Jokers” don’t require cards and after you get a certain number of experience points you can click on summon and based on your experience it will summon Joker .But be careful because every time you summon them. You lose some amount of experience. If you use it too much you might run out of quests and will have to grind for experience by randomly killing monsters.
Music and Localization:
The music is quite up to the mark. And really keeps you engaged into the game. The game localization is also great. As this game was first introduced in Korea in 2008. So a lot of translation of quest and npc voice translation was required. Of which I think they have done a pretty good job. And have given the game that western touch which is expected of any Asian mmorpg when it makes its way to western market. Whenever you go to a young prince and if your character is female than he will always admire you for your beauty.
Solo based instances:
This is one of the hard part of the game because at one time around 50-60 mobs start attacking you and they are so many of them that it’s hard to track what your character is doing .The only way of surviving this is to set your card summoning on automatic mode or you will get killed again and again. I had to like kill 50 mobs but there were only 48. So I had to go to same area twice. That was bit frustrating. I don’t know if that was some kind of bug or they have made it that way but I was really pissed off because of it. After I had done the mission my character started dancing like she had done some miracle. It was quite funny seeing your character dancing near lava.
Enchanting:
You can also upgrade your weapons by enchanting them with Blue Aik Stone which you can get when you disenchant those weapons which you don’t need. But keep your eyes opened before you upgrade your weapon. Because it always says in tab whether it is safe to upgrade it or not. Or else you run the risk of losing your item that you wanted to upgrade as well as your precious money. Yes! It costs money to enchant your weapons.
PVP Aspect:
The pvp aspect is quite ordinary and they have just tried to complete a formality rather than making it an interesting concept. The basic idea is to pvp other players in a team of 4 vs. 4 or 8 vs. 8. There is no reward system. This kind of system prevents people from trying it in my opinion. They need to focus on it very deeply in the future. And come up with a good pvp system that has its rewards with it.
Card book and Skill points:
Card book is quite handy and tells you exactly that what you need to know. It has a list of cards you will find in this game and with each card its requirements are given. Skill points are given every time you level up. Use them according to your chosen class. Both can be accessed by pressing “K” button on your keyboard.
Closing Arguments:
The game needs to work on its PvP aspect and it will have to prove me wrong on my fears that powerful card summoning can only be obtained from cash shop. I am hearing quite a lot of speculation on this matter. We will have to wait and see.
