Dawn of Nations Walkthrough Guide
by posted May 20,2010

This guide is for Dawn of Nations beginner players. It outlines a strategy to get you from zero (0) to approximately fifty (50) thousand rep in under one (1) week. This guide works best for those who can babysit their account a lot. Those that irregularly play may find that it works, but they won’t get the results that others will get.

Starting out

First things first. You have one week to build and no one can attack you, so let’s focus on making our account a powerhouse that can stand up to creating lots of troops in a hurry should we need to do so.

Missions: There is a really nice mission and it’s the first on our list! Follow this mission as it will help you to reach our goals. Work mainly on this mission, but if you can easily get another mission done while following this strategy, why not complete it as well?

There are also missions that give you bonus resources if you reach a certain productivity in resources. These will be our other missions that we focus on first.

Step One: You will be alternating building a resource and a Civilian House. Follow the mission at the top of your list and do what it says. Once you have finished that section of the mission, go back to the Production zone and build a total of 3 Steel Plants, 3 Oil Refineries, 3 Farms and 3 Precious Metal Plants. Once that is done, be sure that you have at least 5 Civilian Houses. You will need to have them maxed out (the max for a Civilian House is Town Hall level +1) in this case, level 2.

Don’t be too concerned that you run out of resources. It is going to happen. If need be, come back later and build some more or use your free resource packs that you get for logging in at either midnight or noon. Also, build Steel Plants and Oil Refineries first as you will use those resources the most at first.

Once all that is done, now it is time to focus on continuing building your economy. Upgrade all those resource fields to level 5. Again, if you run out of resources, wait or use your resource packs.

A note on Diamonds: I would generally suggest that you wait until you get enough to get something good. If you buy Diamonds then use them to get a Construction Mobilization which you will be needing later. I recommend NOT buying speedups as you will get them as you do the Daily Quests and from doing other missions.

A note on Speedups: The smallest speed up takes off 15 minutes of an upgrade time. So anything less than 15 minutes is an instant upgrade. Great, right? They are great, but I would suggest that at this point in time you save them as it’s nice to have a 5 minutes upgrade done right now, but what are you going to do when the upgrade times are 20 minutes? Better to save them and sit out the 5 minutes and then finish all the 20 minute upgrades in only 5 minutes than to have to sit for 20 minutes.

Step One Recap:
1 ) Build 3 of each resource producer and upgrade them to level 5.
2 ) Upgrade at least 5 Civilian Houses to the max it will let you.
3 ) Collect any missions and their rewards

Step Two: Now it is time to further our resources and our ability to upgrade our account.

In this step you are going to
1 ) Add and upgrade another 5 Civilian Houses to max.
2 ) Add another 3 of each resource producers and upgrade them to level 5.
3 ) Upgrade your Town Hall to level 4 so you have enough room for all the resource producers. (thanks darksunx)
4 ) Upgrade your Wall so you can upgrade your Town Hall.

Note: You may need to alternate upgrading your town hall and your resource producers to ensure you have enough resources to keep building steadily.

You may find that you will need to alternate building Civilian Houses and a resource producers. You should focus again on Steel Plants first if possible, but upgrade what you can while waiting for the resources.

Step Two Recap:
1 ) You should have 10 Civilian Houses at the max level.
2 ) You should have 6 of each type of resource producers (for a total of 24) up to level 5.
3 ) Upgrade your Town Hall to level 4.
4 ) Upgrade the Wall to level 1.

Step Three: Now we get to do something else besides Civilian Houses and resource producers! Yay!

At this step or the next, you should use your Construction Mobilization as it will allow you to build 5 buildings at once instead of just 2. IMPORTANT NOTE: Do NOT use the Construction Mobilization if you are not going to be online as you will waste this opportunity. Use it only when you are going to be online for awhile.

Now you should build your Research Center. If you can afford it, research something. I would suggest one of the Resource Technologies first (Food, Steel, Oil or Metallurgy) as this only makes your ability to build new buildings and troops that much faster, but it’s really your choice.

Side note: When you start doing research you will be asked to if you want to be Axis or Allies. The sides are basically equal so pick what you want

Build whatever you need to build your first Arms Plant. (Sorry, but I forget the prerequisite buildings.)
Do not build troops now except for 10 Infantry. This will help you with a further mission that will help you get other troops.

Upgrade your Civilian Houses to max.

Upgrade your resource producers to level 7.

Upgrade your Research Center to level 2.

Research whatever you wish. One strategy is to pick the research that costs the least amount of time while you are online so that you can get more researches done. When you are going to be offline, pick a longer research that will finish while you are offline. Try to pick a research that will also let you still build something as well instead of just the research.

Note on resources: If you find you are always out of a particular resource, then upgrade that one first. Perhaps even beyond level 7.

Collect on any missions that you have finished for the rewards.

Step Three Recap:
1 ) Upgrade all your resource producers to level 7.
2 ) Upgrade all 10 Civilian Houses to max.
3 ) Build your Research Center.
4 ) Research something.
5 ) Build an Arms Plant and train 10 Infantry.
6 ) Upgrade your Research Center to level 2.
7 ) Collect on any missions for the rewards.
8 ) Use a Construction Mobilization if you are online a lot to make the most of it.

Step Four: If you are playing quite a bit, you should be in day 3 – 5 now. Now it is time to follow the main mission in earnest. Build all the buildings it requests.

In this stage, you will need to start getting ready for possibly getting attacked and to be ready for the Flying High Missions. You will need Officers for ransacking as well as additional troops. So you will need to build a Staff Headquarters and a Military Institute.

You will also need to build more Arms Plants for at least a total of 4. Up to 7 would be the max. Work on only 1 Arms Plant to upgrade its level. You will have time to upgrade the others and you need the higher level of the Arms Plant to finish the Strong Army quests which will get you additional troops just for building others! Follow this quest series of upgrading your Arms Plant and building 10 or more of various troops.

Now is the time to start building all the other buildings and you will have a decent amount of resources to build with now that you have those nice resource producers you spent all that amount of time upgrading!

Keep researching things in your Research Center. Choose unlocking new troop types until you get Light Tanks. Then research whatever you can get done quickly so that you can get many researches done.

You should find soon that you have a lot of Infantry and some Motorized Units. If you have an officer with a decent politics rating, you can start seizing level zero (0) or level 1 Basins. Do not attempt anything large until you have a large number of Infantry and Motorized Units! You will be facing a few hundred Infantry and/or Motorized Units at level 0 and 1. Have at least 200 Infantry and 100 Motorized Units at your disposal so that you can win and also recover from losses.

Build a Radar Tower and try to get it up level 5. As these are longer time upgrades, overnight or long log off periods are great times to upgrade this building.

You will need a Communications Center at this time so you can join an alliance once you get out of Rookie Protection.

You may have to alter the strategy if you are in an area where you will be attacked frequently. Troop production should be done in large batches in the next step, but again, if you are above 10k reputation (you should be) and you are surrounded by large players, you should start producing troops now with your resources that are left.

One tip on troop production: When you have build whatever you are going to do when you log off, fill up the training ques in your Arms Plants to they are training your troops. You will be rewarded by logging in to a much larger military.

Step Four Recap:
1 ) Follow the Main Mission and build / do all that it says.
2 ) Build a Staff Headquarters
3 ) Build a Military Institute
4 ) Build a minimum of 4 to 7 maximum Arms Plants.
5 ) Upgrade one Arms Plant up to level 5 (preferably level 9).
6 ) Follow the Strong Army missions to gain new troop types.
7 ) Research to unlock Light Tanks.
8 ) Research anything and everything.
9 ) Build a Radar Tower (up to level 9 if possible).
10 ) Build a Communications Center
11 ) Start ransacking for jewelry in low level Basin fields/tiles.
12 ) Collect any completed missions for rewards.
Step Five: At this stage you should be almost out of Rookie Protection or just out of Rookie Protection. Now is the time to start building troops in earnest.

Build a large amount of Infantry. 1000 to start with is a good goal. Add to it, Motorized Units, Trucks and Light Tanks. Depending upon how much you are being attacked or scouted will determine how many of these you will need.

Continue ransacking fields to get jewelry.

Continue research and focus on getting Scout planes if you don’t have them already. If you have them then whatever you can get.

Upgrade your wall then upgrade your Town Hall.

Start building bunkers in your wall. Build other defenses if you have the research.

Find a good officer for a mayor and up to 3 officers for ransacking fields. Upgrade your Military Institute and Staff Headquarters to level 3 to get more opportunities and to host more officers.

Continue adding to your troops by training more of them. Shoot for 1000 of each and 2000 to 3000 Scout planes to start.

Upgrade all resource producers to level 9.

Upgrade at least one Arms Plant to level 9 if you haven’t already. Upgrade the rest to level 7. (This sets you up for bombers.)

Upgrade your Research Center to level 9.

Research all you can.

If you haven’t finish the main mission, the Flying High mission and the Strong Army missions, do them now.

Look over your other missions and see if there aren’t any you can finish easily. Do them now.

Step Five Recap: Basically, you are setting yourself up for the late game. You have a decent resource base that keeps you able to upgrade just about anything as well as enough resources to build up large amounts of troops and defenses. You will also be starting to run out of things to upgrade, which is good.

1 ) Build lots of troops.
2 ) Ransack fields/ tiles to get jewelry.
3 ) Research, Research, Research
4 ) Upgrade your wall.
5 ) Upgrade your Town Hall.
6 ) Start building defenses on your wall.
7 ) Upgrade your Military Institute and your Staff Headquarters to level 3.
8 ) Upgrade at least one Arms Plant to level 9 (if not already done) and the rest to level 7.
9 ) Upgrade your Research Center to level 9.
10 ) Finish the Main mission, Flying High and Strong Army missions.
11 ) Work on the side missions as you have time and ability.
12 ) Research, Research, Research

Step Six: Now you are just upgrading whatever buildings in your town to level 9 and researching all that you can. Build LOTS of troops. Build up your defenses on your wall. If you have finished the Flying High Mission and you can have a second city, consider getting another city only if you have enough troops to keep it from someone else.

If starting another city, follow the guide again to get your second city up to the same level as your first!

If you are not 50k reputation at this time, build more troops and finish more missions.

  1. Marie says:

Step II needs to be edited. It’s impossible to have 24 production fields and have 6 fields of each when the city hall is only at level 4. The actual amount is 21, with 5 of each production field and allocate the 21st to the resource that gets depleted the fastest.

  2. Kelly says:

You should also add that you cannot increase your production fields faster than your houses – or you’ll have no population!! So upgrade your City Hall before you go out and upgrade your resource fields… or you’ll never get a level 2 CH.

  3. Christian says:

You also need your wall to be at level 2 before upgrading your City Hall to level 4

  4. Hey you have a photo of how i can set up my city like where to exactly put buildings and stuff.
