Glitch is a massively-multiplayer game, playable in the browser and built in the spirit of the web. It is currently in development and will launch late in 2010. Private alpha is beginning shortly and a public beta period will begin this summer.

For starters, it’s all one big world. Which means everyone is playing the same game and anyone’s actions have the ability to affect every other player in the game. It also involves very little war, moats, spaceships, wizards, mafiosos, or tapestries. Also: we have egg plants. Egg plants make it very different.
Two years ago the man who set up photo sharing site Flickr and sold it to Yahoo!, Stewart Butterfield, left to start another mystery enterprise, Tiny Speck. Its first project has finally been revealed, and it’s an intriguing idea: Glitch, a Flash-based massively multiplayer online game.
Glitch works in a browser, and sees you guiding a customisable avatar reminiscent of Sackboy (Tiny Speck says the characters you see will be greatly improved by release) through a 2D animated world, in a bid to travel back through time to save the future. You and your cutesy comrades work together to solve puzzles in what sounds like a brilliant cross between the Crystal Maze and The Lost Vikings.
